Brief Paperwork

Upon entering the office, we have some brief paperwork for you to fill out. As an option, you may choose to download our office forms beforehand, fill them out, and bring them in with you upon your visit to our office. (see OFFICE FORMS) The paperwork provides us with general information about yourself and your condition.

History & Examination

In order to determine what your actual problem is, the doctor will ask you various questions related to your condition. Next, a number of specialized tests will be performed to determine which tissues are affected and to what extent. A clear understanding of the nature and extent of your illness helps the doctor decide whether chiropractic health care is appropriate treatment for your condition, and if additional examination procedures are necessary.

X-ray Studies

Your specific condition may require x-rays to either rule out more serious conditions or assist us in developing the most effective treatment plan for you. These X-rays are safe and help to rule out disease processes of the bones and surrounding tissues as well as evaluate the structural and biomechanical status of your spine. Maine Coast Chiropractic currently does not have an X-ray facility on hand and will refer you to the nearest location if these studies are required.

Lab Procedures

It is sometimes necessary to recommend blood and urine analysis or other procedures. Your doctor will explain the necessity of these tests if they are required.

Consultation

Once the paperwork has been completed, you will have a consultation with the doctor to discuss your health-related problems, concerns, as well as potential treatment options.

Same Day Treatment

Once finished with the examination and all appropriate studies, your doctor will put considerable effort into fully explaining your condition. The cause of the problem as well as the recommended treatment plan and goals will be discussed. Patients are generally provided with their first treatment during this same visit. This may include spinal adjustments, physical therapies, and/or soft tissue therapies. You will have the opportunity to ask questions and express any concerns that you may have. This "team effort" between you and your doctor can greatly enhance a successful outcome.

Home Instructions

Prior to leaving, patients are given instructions on certain activities or procedures to be conducted at home. This may include ice or heat application, avoidance of certain activities or positions, as well as home exercises and/or stretches. The patient may be directed to our site&Mac226;s rehab and exercise section to help with their home program.

Schedule Your Next Appointment

You will be given a convenient appointment time for your follow-up visit. Generally speaking, patients are seen within 1-2 days and are provided with a complete review of findings. Treatment options for your condition will also be discussed during this time.
